Q. Do you have a personal interest in the arts?

Yes, I come from a family with a strong interest in art, my mother is an architect and my grandfather was a professor at an art school in Baku where I was born and grew up. As a collector, my interest includes photography and contemporary art.

Q. What has been the response from the art world since its (.ART) launch?

Tremendous. Since the launch of the Preferred Access Period in February, we secured 2/3 of the registrations we had anticipated within weeks. The art world is very enthusiastic. We have incredible feedback from adopters, from the ICA, TATE, Serpentine and Hauser & Wirth in London to LACMA, Marina Abramovic Institute and EXPO CHICAGO in the USA, Louvre, Centre Georges Pompidou and Fondation Cartier in France, Beyeler Fondation in Switzerland, Multimedia Art Museum in Russia, and way beyond…

Q. Art is more than just a domain, it has become a community for the art world. Was this what you hoped for when you initialized the idea?

.ART is the new digital dress code for a global community of people seeking a clear identification with art or creative activities in general. Seeing .ART embraced by so many high-profile registrants across the world since its launch in December 2016 was extremely encouraging.

Q. Explain you selection process with the first few users?

A number of leading ambassadors, including art publishing platform enterprise E-flux which owns a powerful art database, have acted as consultants to .ART to help boost initial adopters via a token registration system. We got excellent people instantly. We have also worked with other ambassadors in various locations who understood our objectives and search for the best registrants.

Q. Is the domain affordable?

In the domain industry, there are two types of prices - for standard and premium names. Standard names tend to be personal or company names. During the Preferred Access Period the price for a standard name is $299. From 10 May, when the General Availability Period starts, the price will start from $15. Premium names tend to be short words of generic meaning. Their price is determined by a mathematical algorithm we have developed which takes into account about 14 factors, including the number of letters or signs (the shorter the more expensive), popularity in search and comparative prices in other domain zones, among others.
