Way Out West 2013

It is the first day of summer's most anticipated festival and thousands have gathered in Gothenburg. That's right, Way Out West is back!

This year’s line-up is everything but bad.

Artists such as Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, Disclosure, Tame Impala, The Knife, Looptroop Rockers, Crystal Fighters and Local Natives can never disappoint you.

The festival starts with unsettling rain, just as expected. What would a Swedish festival be without some rain and colorful raincoats? This is something that the many street style photographers are keen to capture. Everywhere you look there are stylish and happy people. Way Out West is well known for gathering all of Sweden’s music loving and style caring people together. In simple words it is a festival for good music, new friends, a chilled vibe and plenty of networking.

Crystal Fighters are one of the first bands to perform and as soon as they start playing you can sense the excitement within the crowd. This will be a great festival! Hands are up in the air and bodies are moving to the music. A few songs in, the sun bursts through the clouds and you can tell that the band members are enjoying the gig just as much as the crowd!

Some gigs are better than others of course.

With that said, The Knife, Alicia Keys, Disclosure and Kendrick Lamar made the biggest impact this year, with massive crowds and strobe lights out in the Swedish dark night.

Of course this is expected, since all of these bands played during nighttime, when people are the most excited, happy from the memory of a great day and the knowledge that it still has a long way to go before they stumble into bed at 5 o'clock in the morning.

There is one thing that sets Way Out West apart from other festivals, which is that the gigs continue at night in various clubs around the city. Rather than camping or drinking beer in hidden corners like lost teenagers, you can go to one of the city's nice dark clubs and dance to a great band with amazing lights and a sound system that shakes you to your core. The queues can sometimes be very long, but once you are in it'll be worth the wait.

We thank Way Out West for finishing the Swedish festival summer in the best way possible and grieve that we now have another winter to go through before we can see you again. The joy...
