Watermelon and Grape Tastes Like Flea, 2016

Fascinated with human anatomy, Ismene King is a London-based artist from Athens. Her current work revolves around the visceral and the mortal, often inspired by aspects and imagery of ritual and exploration of new materials.

The body is explored and considered, stripped down to pure anatomy: ‘the inside and the outside, the visible and the invisible, the bone, the joint, the flesh, the nail and the tooth..’ Teeth in particular, featured in her degree show at the Slade School of Art in 2016, where they were used to embellish her collection of uncanny sculptures resembling travel pillows.

Having completed residencies at the Crypt Gallery and Sanskriti Foundation, New Delhi, King has exhibited in Athens, Lisbon and has two upcoming London shows in 2017.
